De son vrai nom Earl Simmons, DMX signe en 1997 chez Def Jam et pose avec LL Cool J, The Lox ou encore Mase, avant de sortir son 1er projet, un classique, "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" en 1998! Six mois plus tard, il envoie son 2nd projet, "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" et c'est un nouveau succès."...And Then There Was X" suit le même chemin.
